Mate1
A database of over 4.5 million profiles make Mate1 one of the biggest dating sites on the internet and one of the most visited websites worldwide.
Mate1 is completely free for women. Men can join the site for free however they have to pay in order to be able to send and read emails, use online chat and see who's viewed their profile. Monthly membership for men is $49.95 however a 3 day trial is available for $1.95.
The fact that Mate1 is free for women probably means that there are more women members than there are men which means that it should be easier for men to find women for chatting, dating or other activities than it is for women to find men for the same activities. Mate1 members can upload up to 20 pictures in their profile and also a voice profile.
Since men can still do searches as free members I would not recommend that you pay the $49.95 fee immediately. Instead I would suggest that you spend a couple of days searching for potential matches whilst still registered as a free member. Only when you have a list of say 20 to 30 potential matches would I recommend that you subscribe for the 3 day trail membership. During these 3 days you can correspond with all these potential matches and I would suggest that you give them your email whilst asking them for theirs. So if you decide to cancel your membership during the 3 day trial you can still contact your potential matches at a a later stage. During these 3 days you should decide whether it is worth while subscribing for a whole month or cancelling your subscription. Please note that your credit card will be charged $49.95 if you do not cancel your subscription during the trial period, so don't say that I did not warn you.
I have read some complaints related to Mate1 saying that there are several fake profiles in the site. Another complaint is that the use of spam emails is rife in the site. This might be the case, but I ask, which dating or social networking site does not have a problem with fake profiles and spam emails.
What I know for sure is that a good male friend of mine started corresponding with a female friend on Mate1 more than a year ago. Although they live in different countries they both became very close friends and in fact they chat online for more than an hour each day. They have already met twice and in a couple of months they will be meeting again. His friend is now considering relocating to his place in the year 2010. All this thanks to Mate1!
